Birth buddies was formed in 2003 by Honey and Philippa when they met and discovered they shared a passion for supporting women and families. The team has grown to include more passionate doulas. Birth Buddies have now supported hundreds of women, their partners, and families through pregnancy, birth, and the newborn time. To meet us in person come along to one of our regular free Meet the Birth Buddies sessions - see the Events page for dates and times.

I have a daughter born in 2003. The experience of being pregnant, giving birth and parenting a newborn solidified for me the passion for supporting parents that had been growing over the years. I believe in supporting parents in whatever choices they make, providing information, options, and a belief in their ability. I am studying undergraduate midwifery with the hope of becoming a midwife in 2009. A doula for 4 years I have experience supporting hospital births, home births, birth centre, natural births, planned caesarean births, emergency caesareans, epidurals, VBAC, water births, inductions, unexpected outcomes, and joyful new beginnings. Every birth is such a gift to attend, with each family a special relationship forms, I feel truly blessed and honoured to be able to support families as they bring a new child into the world.

I am a mum to 2 beautiful little girls. Currently I am a studying Doula with Childbirth International.
Pregnancy and childbirth has always been something that I have been very interested in and drawn too. I am not sure where this comes from but I now know that they are deeply seeded within me. Pregnancy, and the birth of my own children, added an even stronger sense of understanding to my feelings for pregnancy & birth. This gave me the realization that being involved in the child bearing process, some way-some how, was what I was born to do.
Birth is a beautiful natural process which every woman and her family should be able to experience and understand. As a Doula, I intend on providing the best possible way, within my power, for mothers to experience labour and birth just as it were intended to be....with unconditional and complete love, support & guidance.

A Melbourne native, I moved to Townsville (by way of Wagga Wagga) 12 months ago. I am blessed with three wonderful sons. Throughout my birthing career I have experienced much diversity, unbeknown to us at the time, we were quite spoilt with birthing options in Melbourne. Our family then moved to Wagga Wagga which offered zero birthing options, it was here that my passion for supporting and informing families was established. Our next move bought us to Townsville where I have been privileged to begin working with birthing women and their families. I have worked with women who have water birthed, home birthed, VBAC’ed and supported through the unexpected outcome of a caesarian. As a defence spouse I have experienced the loneliness which living great distances from family can cause especially when it comes to pregnancy, birth and the newborn period, not to mention how daunting it can be moving to a new location while pregnant. I hope that I can assist these families as well as any others make a smooth, celebrated transition into parenthood. I am currently studying with Childbirth International to become a certified doula.

Being a Doula has been and continues to be such a rewarding journey for me. Through the births of my own three Daughters and the births of the families who have given me the honour of working with them, a great trust and respect of women and their amazing instinct and abilities have developed in me. A great esteem has also grown for the manner in which partners can enhance the way a woman births and an acknowledgement that fathers/partners deserve support in their own journey of birth. It is from this position that my work with clients takes place. My role is one of pure support, what happens on a practical level will depend on what you want done. Over the past 4 years I have had the opportunity to support birth in many different forms, Hospital and Home births, VBAC’s, Caesareans, Natural births and ones with unexpected outcomes, water births and a lot of other variations. Each one has taught me something.
Having a keen interest in birth after caesarean, facilitating the Birth after Caesarean Support and Information Group monthly meetings over the past year has brought great satisfaction. These women have blessed me with their openness and hunger for knowledge. This has in turn lead to a new voyage into Childbirth Education which I am studying through CBI.
When we started Birth Buddies in 2003 I had little idea of how much being a Doula would mean to me. I’m hooked!!
